Red Berry Tart
A favorite when I go to BBQs (parties, hackathons, your folks’ place), this red berry tart is fairly easy to make and packs a huge wow factor.
Components
- Graham Cracker Crust
- Vanilla Custard Filling
- Red Berry Dessert Topping
Directions
- Bake the crust and let it cool
- Make the custard, pour into crust
- Make the red berry topping, spread over the top
Graham Cracker Crust

Ingredients
- 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 6 tbs butter (melted)
- 1⁄3 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Steps
- pulse graham cracker in food processor or use muddler to crumb in bowl
- combine melted butter, graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl
- press into pan, forming into crust shape
Vanilla Custard Filling

Ingredients
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 1⁄4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups milk
- 2 egg yolks, lightly beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Steps
- In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, flour and salt. Stir in milk until smooth.
- Cook and stir over medium-high heat until thickened and bubbly.
- Reduce heat; cook and stir 2 minutes longer.
- Remove from the heat. Stir a small amount of hot filling into egg yolks; return all to the pan.
- Bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly; cook and stir 2 minutes longer.
- Remove from the heat. Gently stir in vanilla.
